CeMENT: Mentoring for Junior Faculty
Every year CSWEP organizes a national mentoring (CeMENT) workshop aimed at mentoring female junior faculty at institutions where promotion is primarily based on research output. The next national mentoring workshop will occur in conjunction with the ASSA meetings in January 2015. A call for applications will be announced in July 2014 and applications will be due in September 2014.
Every other year CSWEP also organizes a regional mentoring workshop aimed at mentoring junior faculty at institutions where promotion is heavily based on teaching performance, but research output is also expected. The next regional workshop will occur in conjunction with the Southern Economic Association meetings in Fall 2015. A call for applications will be announced in Spring 2015.
The mentoring workshops consist of a two-day program in which participants are arranged into small groups based on their research area under the direction of senior (tenured) faculty mentors. Group members and mentors discuss and offer feedback on the participants’ research. Workshop also typically include larger how-to sessions on topics such as: publishing, developing a tenure case, writing a grant, teaching, conferences and networking, and work/life balance.
