Job Description: The successful candidate will be hired full time jointly by the University of Geneva (GSEM) and the HES-SO of Geneva (HEG). The candidate will take the role of Director of a new joint research Institute of applied economics, management and evaluation of public policies. The new Institute is a joint initiative of the GSEM and the HEG, and the Director will be engaged by both schools, as associated Professor at 50% by the GSEM and as HES Professor at 50% by the HEG. With the Institute, the GSEM and the HEG respond to the research needs of the community, mainly in Geneva but also at a national and international level. The successful candidate will direct the activities of the Institute and promote its influence by developing the links between academic research and the social environment, especially in the fields of labour market policy, social policy and management of both public and private organizations. He/she will work in close co-operation with the GSEM and the HEG's professors, junior researchers and interns. He/she will respond to tender calls in the fields of economics and management, organize the work of the Institute, hire and supervise personnel, manage financial and material resources. As a professor, he/she will lead and coordinate applied research projects. The director will also be directly involved in the development and implementation of the medium- and long-run strategic plan of the Institute, and will propose the annual budget to the founding organisations. Under his/her direction, the new Institute will increase co-operation between the GSEM and the HEG, and at the same time between public authorities and public or private organizations. The director of the Institute will be partly paid by the revenues of the research contracts.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a PhD in economics or equivalent degree. They must be fluent in both French and English. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated ability to produce influential and relevant policy work. A good record of academic publication is a strong advantage. Experience in leading and coordinating research teams, and proven ability to effectively supervise students will be considered as an asset. The ability to promote service activities with public and private organizations, good knowledge of the local economic environment, excellent interpersonal skills, and a good degree of media exposure will also be positively considered.

Availability: Candidates are expected to start around January 2015 (or at a later date to be discussed).
