GAO anticipates openings for entry and senior level economist positions in 2015. GAO serves a critical role providing the U.S. Congress with non-partisan, fact-based, objective analyses on a wide range of government programs and policy issues. Work at GAO requires skills in applied research, effective interpersonal and teamwork skills, good organizational abilities, an ability to meet deadlines, and strong oral and written communication skills. We plan to be at the January 2014 AEA meetings. Center for Economics— as part of the Applied Research and Methods Team, CE works with GAO's subject matter teams to provide economic analysis in support of our work for the Congress. We are interested in PhD candidates who expect their degree in 2015 as well as PhD economists. In general, we seek economists with interests in applied economics and econometrics. We are particularly looking for economists with applied research skills in microeconomics including finance, international, public policy, education, labor and industrial organization.

Education, Workforce and Income Security (EWIS)- examines policy questions related to education, the workforce, disability, and retirement security. Current and recent studies include an analysis of saving in 529 plans, an examination of student loan debt of older Americans, an analysis of proposed changes within the Federal Employees Compensation Act, an examination of the school-meals programs, and an examination of fees in 401(k) plans. We seek economists with applied research skills and an interest in policy analysis and program evaluation.
