Job Summary:
The AACSB-accredited School of Business Administration at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, invites candidates for a full-time, tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor of Economics beginning in the fall of 2022. The successful candidate is expected to take part in teaching, professional development, academic citizenship and service, and advising as specified below.

Gonzaga University is a Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic institution, and seeks to create a community of people who contribute to its distinctive mission. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of the University and the School of Business Administration. We welcome teacher-scholars with a commitment to inclusive teaching.

Essential Functions:
Teaching—The faculty member is expected to teach 9 credits each semester during the academic year in economics. The successful candidate will combine teaching and research in their field(s) of specialization with the expectation to regularly teach one or more core courses in the major: Principles of Microeconomics and/or Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics and/or Macroeconomics, Regression Analysis, and Econometrics. Research/teaching interests in public economics, urban/regional economics, and applied econometrics preferred.

The faculty member is expected to prepare students to successfully work in a culturally diverse, global context. Future department needs may dictate shifts in teaching responsibilities, but in general no more than two unique course preps during a semester are expected. As part of our commitment to successful starts for our faculty, a one-semester, 3-credit teaching load reduction is available to new faculty hires in their first year. Summer teaching opportunities may be available but are neither required nor guaranteed.

Professional Development—This position requires that the faculty member remain current with developments in economics as they pertain to their teaching and ability to conduct quality research leading to publication in peer-reviewed academic journals in the discipline. Support is available to promote scholarly engagement.

Academic Citizenship & Service—The successful candidate will be a member of the faculty of the School of Business Administration, with full voting privileges in the University faculty assembly and the school, and as such is expected to be a contributing member of the economics discipline, the school, and the university, commensurate with their experience level. Participation on university and school committees is required. In addition, Gonzaga University and the School of Business Administration have strong ties to the larger Spokane community; thus, faculty engagement with the local community is also valued and expected. Preference for candidates with a willingness to engage with the local business community.
Advising – There are no student advising requirements for first-year faculty, but academic advising will become part of the individual’s duties following a successful first year.

Required Qualifications:
· PhD in Economics or closely related field – ABD considered, with the expectation that the candidate will have fulfilled all of their requirements for the PhD by July 15, 2022
· Demonstrated ability to teach quality undergraduate courses in economics
· Demonstrated ability to conduct quality research leading to publication in peer-reviewed academic journals in economics
· Demonstrated willingness to advance the missions of Gonzaga University and the School of Business Administration
· Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a collegial environment
· Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students with diverse backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized.

Applicants must complete an online application and electronically submit all of the following documents: (1) a cover letter that addresses all the required qualifications, (2) a detailed curriculum vitae, (3) a statement of teaching philosophy, (4) teaching evaluations, (5) research statement and sample, and (6) the names and contact information for three (3) professional references to write confidential letters of recommendation. Letters will only be requested for finalists.

The cover letter should address how the candidate will advance the missions of Gonzaga University and the School of Business Administration in their teaching, scholarship, and service. In addition, candidates who have experience working with faculty, staff, and students with diverse backgrounds, and who can contribute to the departmental ethos and campus climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in these areas. In the statement of teaching philosophy or elsewhere, candidates are encouraged to include reflections on how they create a learning environment in which all students can learn; the candidate’s strategies for including a diversity of perspectives, voices, and lived experiences in the learning process; and the candidate’s experience supporting traditionally underrepresented students in higher education (e.g., as connected to race, ability, LGBTQ+, first-gen status).
