The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is seeking an experienced monetary or financial economist, with interests in financial payments research. Relevant areas of research would include the study of payments systems as networks; consumer payment choice; wholesale payments systems (including their relationship to monetary policy implementation and financial stability); financial payments innovation (including digital currencies, faster payments and other settlement schemes, and issues related access to financial market access for traditionally underserved communities); topics related to market structure and pricing.

Candidates should have a proven track record of publications related to one or more of the foregoing topics. Preference will be given to candidates with interests in both empirical and applied-theoretical work.

Successful candidates will be expected to maintain an active research program generating publications in refereed professional journals. Individuals in this position will also be asked to lend their expertise as consultants to other payments-related activities at the Atlanta Fed, such as the System Retail Product Office and the department’s Diary of Consumer Payment Choice.
