The Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is seeking to hire a PhD economist at the assistant or associate level. The department will consider candidates doing applied research with a focus in firm-level dynamics, business organization, innovation and growth, firm expectations and uncertainty, and labor market and human capital dynamics. Strong preference will be given to candidates who are working with or have experience constructing large data sets from micro-level administrative or survey-related data. Economists with at least three years of experience with an established publication record, and a promising research trajectory will be considered.

The position’s primary responsibilities are to conduct high-quality research for publication in leading academic journals and contribute to the department’s research and policy missions.

The Department maintains an excellent research environment, provides substantial research support, and houses several research centers including the Center for Quantitative Economic Research, the Center for Financial Innovation and Stability, and the Center for Human Capital Studies. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is also the site of the Atlanta Research Data Center which provides restricted access to non-publicly available Census data. The department also produces a monthly Survey of Business Expectations and monthly Business Inflation Expectations Survey, providing panel time series on firms’ subjective beliefs over their own economic outcomes.
