Full Text of JOE Listing:

Applications are invited for the position of Senior Research Fellow at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR), a multi-disciplinary research centre established across five Australian universities.

CEPAR seeks to appoint a suitably qualified person at its UNSW Sydney node to join a multi-disciplinary research team committed to transforming thinking about population ageing and establishing Australia as a world leader in the field.

The Senior Research Fellow (Level C Academic) will conduct high quality research to be published in major international journals, and carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her scholarly research as well as to enhance the profile of the Centre. In particular, the Senior Research Fellow will develop a large scale overlapping generations model of the Australian economy, which will be used to i) compute optimal tax and pension policy trajectories, capturing demographic dynamics and wellbeing of both current and future generations; ii) determine the nature of the link between productivity, technology, and demography theoretically and empirically; and iii) determine how optimal labour and investment income taxes vary by age and how they will be impacted by demography.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Economics, Econometrics or a related discipline as well as high level skills in stochastic analysis, theory and modelling. In addition, the successful candidate will have an excellent publication record in a relevant area, relative to opportunity; demonstrated experience, knowledge and expertise with Australian data, Australian policy settings and large-scale Australian dynamic macroeconomic model building; international professional research connections; experience in postgraduate research supervision; the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and government agency professionals; the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team; and excellent computing and communication skills.

The position is full-time fixed term for three years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period.
