For nearly five decades, Urban scholars have conducted research and delivered evidence-based solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities across a rapidly urbanizing world. Our objective research helps expand opportunities for all, reduce hardship among the most vulnerable, and strengthen the effectiveness of the public sector.

The Tax Policy Center is seeking a Senior Research Associate or Senior Fellow who is a proven scholar in public finance with a strong interest in public policy, exceptional analytical skills, and has an ability to translate research into clear, comprehensible terms that are accessible to policymakers and the public.
The Tax Policy Center is a highly respected, nonpartisan research center that is a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution. We combine high quality research with a commitment to elevate the tax policy debate through clear and innovative communications.

Responsibilities will include leading research teams working on federal, state, or local tax policy issues and collaborating with researchers across the Urban Institute and in the Brookings Institution on research projects related to tax policy; engaging with funders and contributing to proposals for new research projects; writing articles both for academic publications and for a lay audience; speaking to the press and policymakers about the implications of research for public policy; organizing and contributing to policy seminars; and working to expand audiences for our research through such vehicles as social media or web-based tools.

This position requires a PhD or equivalent experience in Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration or Statistics plus at least six 3-6 years of post-graduate experience and strong skills in microeconomics, public finance, and econometrics. A successful academic publication record is desirable, but evidence of successful research output disseminated through other outlets will also be considered. Experience in microsimulation modeling, general equilibrium modeling, and/or econometric analysis of large datasets are also desirable. The applicant should have excellent writing and presentation skills and the proven ability to work collaboratively and to produce quick turn-around analyses under tight deadlines when necessary.
