The OCC charters, regulates and supervises all national banks, federal branches and agencies of foreign banks and federal savings associations. There is an opening for a financial economist in the OCC’s Policy Analysis Division (PAD) in Washington, DC. Economists in PAD conduct research and analysis that support the division’s mission which is to identify and analyze current and likely future key trends and developments in bank performance, financial markets, laws and regulation that are relevant to the development and implementation of agency policy and the effectiveness of OCC supervision. Division economists also advise senior management on policy issues, serve on internal and inter-agency working groups, and provide technical expertise and analysis to other OCC divisions.
Job Qualifications: A successful candidate will have strong quantitative and econometric skills and should have an interest in doing applied, policy-oriented research focusing on financial markets and institutions. Strong oral and written communications skills are essential. A Ph.D. in Economics, Finance or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience is desired. The job does not require substantial overnight travel.
