The Bank of Finland is Finland’s national monetary authority and a member of the Eurosystem. Our job is to promote price stability and the stability, efficiency and European integration of the financial system. The Bank’s work is a prerequisite for economic growth and employment. There are approximately 400 persons working at the Bank of Finland and an additional 210 in association with it at the Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA).
In accordance with our strategy, the Bank of Finland’s successful contribution to the Eurosystem is based on research and analysis. In line with our research policy, the Bank’s research is oriented towards being among the foremost central banks in producing academic research of the highest quality and the effective utilisation of research expertise in policy formation.
The Research Unit within the Bank of Finland’s Monetary Policy and Research Department is responsible for organising the Bank’s research relating to financial market and macroeconomic stability and the interplay between the two. The Bank’s research resources are organised in fixed-term assignments for researchers and advisers, whose responsibilities are divided between research and policy work.
The Research Unit is looking for a
for a fixed term, 5-year post. The research economist will work mainly on research projects in the Bank’s primary area of research. The post’s responsibilities will also cover policy work agreed in advance.

• a doctorate in economics
• economic research having high publication potential
• familiarity with financial market and macroeconomic analysis
• motivation for demanding work as a researcher and economist
• an ability to cooperate and network as well as flexibility
• excellent written and verbal presentation skills in English.
Competence in econometric and statistical methodologies and computer-based solution methods would be an advantage. The research emphases related to the post focus primarily on the interplay between the financial markets and the macro economy, macroeconomic and monetary policy issues or banking activities and financial market stability plus, as a secondary issue, asset pricing.
