Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Bank of England has made a commitment to increase our research capability. We are looking for highly trained researchers with the capacity to produce, publish and communicate innovative, world-class research and a fascination for the challenging policy issues facing modern economies. Our research agenda flows from fundamental central banking issues thrown up by the crisis and we are in a unique position now housing under one roof monetary, macroprudential and microprudential policy.

Our research economists enjoy a rich and stimulating environment, have close engagement with policymakers, make a key contribution to policy analysis and should expect to spend a significant portion of their time on research across a wide range of topics in macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, finance, banking and regulation. To make a reality of cross-disciplinary approaches we would also welcome applications from qualified researchers in other disciplines.

Successful candidates will be expected to publish in top-quality journals and collaborate with external and visiting academics. As well as presenting research to policymakers, our economists attend and present at conferences. We have active seminar programmes and will also increase materially the number of conferences we host or sponsor. As a large central bank we provide sizable computing resources and have unique, rich and novel datasets.

New PhD hires will join our new three-year Research Programme. We have revisited our PhD proposition and now offer a competitive salary and will commit to significant time for research, including in our new Research Hub which will draw together research experts and be led by the Chief Economist. Candidates must hold (or expect to complete by autumn 2015) a PhD in economics, finance or other discipline relevant to central bank policymaking. We are also actively seeking to hire more experienced researchers and can offer bespoke opportunities to meet your interests.

More information about research at the Bank and our offer can be found at www.bankofenglandgraduates.co.uk
