The Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen's University invites applications for the Stephen J. R. Smith Chair in Economic Policy. The holder of the Chair will be a distinguished academic, normally tenured and at the rank of Professor. Applicants who are currently at the Associate Professor level are also encouraged to apply.

We seek a distinguished economist whose research and teaching focus on one or more areas of economic policy. Fields of specialization might include public economics, labour economics, health economics, or any other area of applied economics that contributes to the formation of sound economic policies in Canada.

Candidates should have a PhD. The main criterion for selection is academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates independent research leading to peer assessed publications, as well as demonstrated ability for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the department’s programs. Candidates must also provide evidence of an ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment. The successful candidate will also be expected to make substantive contributions through service to the department, to the Faculty, to the University, and/or the broader community. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
