Microsoft seeks applications to fill positions reporting to our Chief Economist (Preston McAfee). Successful candidates should have a PhD in economics completed by spring 2014 and should have a well-established track record in the field of applied microeconomics. Candidates should be proficient coders with a desire to learn and use big data computing clusters and the associated scripting languages.

The position will report directly to the Chief Economist and will contribute applied econometric analysis to high-impact projects involving core strategy. Topic areas include (but are not limited to): cloud pricing, search auctions, machine learning prediction and market design.
