The Atlantic cited a 2008 cost-benefit study of the Job Corps program that appeared in the American Economic Review. In “Does Job Corps Work? Impact Findings from the National Job Corps Study” the authors review data from a randomized experiment that assigned some disadvantaged youths to receive free job training. They found that the program led to real benefits for those who participated, including better school attendance and higher wages, but that the earnings gains were temporary for most.
