When Women Run Companies

A recent piece in the Atlantic cited a study that appeared in the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics in 2013. In A Female Style in Corporate Leadership? Evidence from Quotas, authors David Matsa and Amalia Miller study companies in Norway, some of which were affected by a policy designed to increase female representation on corporate boards. The authors find that the new rule leads firms to have fewer workforce reductions, especially at firms that had no women on their boards before the policy.
