The Institute of Social Science at the University of Tokyo has one opening for a Research Associate (jokyo) in any field of Economics. This is a non-tenure-track post-doctoral position. The maximum term is 3 years, but we are happy to consider applications from candidates who will be taking up a tenure-track position elsewhere and intend to stay for only one or two years.
The main responsibility of the position is to produce high-quality academic research. Voluntary participation in joint research projects at the Institute is encouraged. A limited amount of teaching and admissions-related duties may also be assigned. If assigned, teaching would be in English.
The start date for the position is April 1st, 2027, but we are willing to consider a delayed start until July 1st, 2027, at the latest. The position ends at the latest on March 31st, 2030, or earlier if the mandatory retirement age of 65 is reached.
Qualifications
1) PhD degree already obtained, or expected to be obtained by your start date.
2) Some ability to communicate in Japanese, regardless of nationality.
