The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for one position at the full professor level to begin in the Fall semester of the 2027–2028 academic year (August 2027).
Founded in 1866, AUB is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. With over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members, the university encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.
We encourage candidates from all fields of Economics to apply, with a preference given to finance and development. The successful candidate must show expertise in local and global economics that address critical development issues in the region (i.e., Middle East and Africa) as well as possess an outstanding academic record, which should include a distinguished and internationally recognized research profile with sustained publications in leading and highly ranked peer-reviewed journals. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, a strong commitment to scholarly research, and an active record of professional service. The successful candidate is expected to contribute significantly to the Department’s research output and visibility, graduate supervision, curriculum development, and broader academic mission.
The teaching load is four courses per year. The language of instruction is English. Candidates must hold a PhD in Economics and qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor by the time of appointment.
