The Soil Health Institute (SHI) is a nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing soil vitality and productivity through scientific research and advancement. SHI brings together leaders in soil science and agriculture to conduct research and equip farmers with the knowledge needed to adopt regenerative soil health systems that deliver economic and environmental benefits.
SHI is seeking an Interdisciplinary Scientist to quantify and communicate the benefits of soil health for integration into sustainable sourcing frameworks and supply chains. This full-time position (minimum 12 months, with potential extension) requires a self-motivated professional who can bridge economics, agronomy, and social science to develop applied, adoption-focused research. Remote work is supported, with up to 15% travel. Preferred start date: March 30, 2026.
Candidates should hold a Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant field and demonstrate strong analytical skills, interdisciplinary thinking, and experience (or willingness to develop expertise) in farm-level economic analysis. Responsibilities include developing methodologies to assess transition economics, integrating diverse datasets, conducting on-farm research, building stakeholder partnerships, and translating findings into practical tools and reports.
