Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Senior Economist is expected to play a leading role in the delivery of high-quality knowledge products and analytical work across a broad range of economic issues.

1. Key Responsibilities
a. Undertake high-quality, policy-oriented analysis and data work related to Asia’s economic policies, including macroeconomic and financial policies, industrial policy, and structural policies relating to digitalisation, energy, and supply chains.
b. Provide policy recommendations and contribute to the formulation of policy directions on economic issues relevant to ASEAN and East Asia.
c. Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills by confidently engaging with diverse audiences and representing ERIA at international conferences, meetings, and symposiums, as required.
d. Provide strategic advice at regional, national, and local levels, and remain informed about emerging trends and best practices in the field.
e. Engage with key stakeholders (governments, industry, academia, and other international and non-governmental organisations) through knowledge management, policy guidance, technical assistance, and capacity-building activities.
f. Perform other related duties as assigned by the President, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Economist, and/or other senior management officials.

2. Qualifications
a. A strong understanding of macroeconomic frameworks, fiscal policy, structural and industrial policies, and regional economic dynamics—particularly within ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region—is highly desirable.
b. At least five years of relevant experience, gained through professional work or research, in these areas.
c. An advanced degree in Economics, Macroeconomics, Finance, Development Studies, Public Policy, or another relevant field.
d. Strong analytical and research skills, with experience in economic policy analysis related to ASEAN and East Asia.
e. Excellent writing skills, with a proven track record of producing high-quality publications.
f. Extensive experience in handling and analysing economic data sources.
g. Ability to present key findings effectively to public and policy-oriented audiences.
h. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a multicultural team.
i. Experience communicating with government officials in Asian countries and familiarity with regional working cultures are preferred.

3. Language
a. Excellent written and spoken English.
b. Proficiency in East Asian languages would be an asset.

4. Working Conditions and Terms of Employment
a. Term
The appointment is for a fixed term of one or two years, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of five years in total, subject to reappointment by the President, performance, and the continuation of the budget.
