Full Text of JOE Listing:

Hiroshima University (HU) hereby announces an open international search for a Professor (tenured), Associate Professor (tenured), or Associate Professor/Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the field of Microeconomics or closely related areas. The successful candidate will teach introductory and intermediate Microeconomics courses at the graduate level, in addition to specialized courses of their choice. While all teaching will be conducted in English, the candidate must possess sufficient proficiency in Japanese and must be able to perform university administrative duties in Japanese.

This recruitment is based on HU’s "Policy for Recruiting and Cultivating Excellent Faculty Members," which aims to provide a supportive environment that allows early career faculty to focus on research and education. The appointed candidate will also be affiliated with both the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (International Economic Development Program) and the Graduate School of Innovation and Practice for Smart Society (Social Innovation Science Program).

This newly established position offers the opportunity for promotion to Associate Professor with tenure upon successful completion of the tenure-track review within the prescribed period. The tenure-track system is designed to encourage long-term commitment, enabling the faculty member to dedicate themselves fully to research and teaching aligned with their proposed research plan. Accordingly, during the recruitment process, we evaluate not only each applicant’s research and teaching performance but also the content, scope, and long-term vision of their research plan. We place particular emphasis on whether the plan demonstrates a medium- to long-term perspective (approximately 10 years), extending beyond the tenure-track period. The tenure review will comprehensively assess the applicant’s achievements during their term at HU as well as the future potential of their research.

We look forward to welcoming candidates who share HU’s principles, long-term vision, and medium-term goals—those who are motivated and ready to play a central role in advancing research and education at Hiroshima University.
