The Program Officer supports the Academy’s work in American Institutions, Society, and the Public Good through research, writing, project management, policy analysis, and administrative coordination. Building on the Our Common Purpose project and the Commission on Reimagining the Economy, this role helps advance new nonpartisan, cross-ideological initiatives focused on the American economy and democratic governance, with particular attention to local approaches to national challenges.
Working closely with Academy staff, members, partners, and civic leaders, the Program Officer organizes meetings and convenings, develops outreach and communications strategies, and supports program development and fundraising, including grant writing. Responsibilities include drafting and editing reports, publications, and briefings; synthesizing research; managing project logistics; and facilitating collaboration across stakeholders. The position may also involve qualitative and quantitative analysis, partnership development, and limited staff supervision.
Candidates should hold a PhD with at least two years of relevant experience, or an MA/MPA with five years of professional experience. Strong writing skills, expertise in American politics or public policy, and the ability to work across disciplines and ideological perspectives are essential. Experience with grants, civic organizations, or data tools is a plus.
