Full Text of JOE Listing:

The newly launched School of Climate, Environment, and Society at Clark University invites applications for a full-time Associate or Full Professor to serve as the inaugural Klorman Professor of Climate, Economics & Society. We are seeking an academic leader in climate economics and particularly welcome candidates with expertise in climate finance and energy transitions to enhance and leverage the university’s strengths in these areas. This endowed position is expected to maintain a high-impact research portfolio and contribute to the school’s vibrant graduate and undergraduate programs.

With the launch of the School of Climate, Environment, and Society, this professorship is one of a cluster of newly endowed, school-wide positions designed to foster cross-departmental collaboration and partnerships that deliver real-world impact. The school is home to three academic departments (Economics, Geography, Sustainability and Social Justice), two research institutes (George Perkins Marsh Institute and Center for Geospatial Analytics), and additional affiliated faculty from Biology and other university departments. Significantly, the Department of Economics has chosen to become one of the school’s founding departments, acknowledging climate and global change as the defining challenge of our time. The school supports two Ph.D. programs (Economics and Geography), five master’s programs, and five undergraduate majors.

The ideal candidate will provide evidence of an outstanding publication record, external research funding, and teaching excellence. We welcome applicants with traditional academic careers as well as those with distinguished experience in non-academic policy or applied research settings. Candidates with outstanding promise but without the qualifications for tenure-upon-hire may be considered for a pre-tenure appointment. A Ph.D. in economics or related field is required.

The anticipated 9-month base salary range is $150,000-$200,000, with the actual pay offered to be determined based on factors such as qualifications, internal equity, and market considerations. Clark University is an equal opportunity employer.

Applications should include: 1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) research statement, 4) teaching statement, with evidence of teaching effectiveness if available, and 5) contact information for three professional references.

Review of applications will begin January 12. The anticipated start is August 16, 2026. Questions may be directed to ces@clarku.edu.
