The School of Economics and Trade (SET) at Hunan University invites applications for tenure-track positions in all fields of economics, with an emphasis on international economics, international trade, industrial organization, microeconomics, urban and regional economics, public economics, econometrics, environmental economics, macroeconomics, development economics, etc.

Listed in the “First-tier University” national project, Hunan University is one of the top universities in China. With its first Economics department established in 1926, the university has a long and distinguished history in economics education and research. The SET, founded in 2002, inherits the strengths of the former Hunan University and the economics-related disciplines of the former Hunan Institute of Public Finance and Economics. The school currently has 91 full-time faculty members and comprises five departments: International Economics and Trade, Economics, Public Finance, Digital Economics, and the Center for Economics, Finance, and Management Studies. We are committed to advancing academic excellence by cultivating excellent teachers and producing high-quality journal articles. The school currently offers master's and doctoral degrees in two first-level disciplines: theoretical economics and applied economics. It also hosts Hunan Key Base of Social Science for International Trade and has undertaken a bunch of national key academic research programs.

In recent years, the SET has undertaken 15 key projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation and the Ministry of Education, as well as more than 80 other national-level research projects. Faculty members have published over 300 papers in SSCI/SCI-indexed journals, including internationally top-tier journals such as The Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Development Economics, and PNAS. The school has also received more than 40 awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Ministry of Education Award for Research in Humanities and Social Sciences.

Candidates for all positions must hold a Ph.D. or firmly expect a doctorate by August 2026. The SET offers a competitive package commensurate with experience, including competitive salary, research funds, housing allowances, and standard fringe benefits.

We will conduct interviews and hold two batches of interviews on December 15-25, 2025, and January 3-10, 2026.
