The School of Applied Economics (SAE) at Renmin University of China, formed in 2019, is the first school of applied economics among China’s “double first-rate” initiative Universities. SAE has four departments: the Department of National Economy Management, the Department of Energy Economics, the Research Institute of Regional and Urban Economics, and the Department of Industrial Economics.

The history of SAE could be traced back to 1950, when the newly-formed RUC set up the Department of Economic Planning and Research Division of Economic Geography. Since the early days of the People’s Republic of China, RUC has been an important national center for teaching and research of applied economics, and has earned a strong reputation in applied economics. The assessments conducted by the Chinese Ministry of Education (2004, 2008, 2012, 2017) consistently ranked RUC top in teaching and research of applied economics.

Applicants with research interests in Industrial Economics, Regional Economics, Macroeconomics, Development Economics are especially encouraged to apply.
