Yale University seeks a skilled Health Economist (HE) to support policy-relevant, data-driven research, working with Chima Ndumele, Jacob Wallace, and team. This is a unique opportunity for someone with expertise in causal inference, strong data and statistical programming skills, and a passion for applying empirical methods to improve Medicaid and other public programs and expand our knowledge about what works.

The HE will be embedded in Connecticut’s Department of Social Services (DSS), collaborating across teams to link data systems, build infrastructure, and unlock new avenues for policy evaluation. They will develop analytic plans and lead projects that use advanced statistical, econometric, and ML techniques to inform quality improvement and research initiatives. They will have opportunities to build a strong publication record in the top economics, clinical, and health policy journals.

The ideal candidate is fluent in R or Python, has experience with healthcare data, and is comfortable working with ML libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow). A strong grasp of causal inference and the ability to communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders are essential.

The HE will also mentor junior team members, establish best practices in coding, and ensure data integrity.

This is a one-year, full-time position with possibility of renewal.
