The Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University seeks outstanding researchers in social science or related disciplines for Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) nominees.

The CERC program offers Canadian institutions the chance to establish research chairs with awards of $1 million or $500 thousand per year for eight years, aligning with Government of Canada’s science, technology and innovation priorities.

CERC nominations are open to individuals not currently appointed as McMaster faculty members. Successful nominees must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Professor. In exceptional cases, Associate Professors may be considered if promotion to Professor is expected within two years. Candidates not currently in academic positions must possess the qualifications necessary to be appointed at these ranks.

Researchers with full-time academic appointments at a Canadian institution are eligible but cannot be nominated by their current institution. If nominated by another institution, the nominating institution must show the net benefit to the country in moving the researcher from one Canadian institution to another.
