The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is hiring a skilled research scientist with expertise in Medicare claims to support health economics research projects, particularly focused on Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and related health conditions. These projects are funded by a National Institute on Aging grant and are led by Dr. Kosali Simon and Dr. Sumedha Gupta of Indiana University.

Ideal candidates will have a doctoral degree (or expect to complete one by spring 2025) in a relevant quantitative field such as Economics, Health Services Research, Public Policy, or Public Health. Strong programming skills in SAS are highly preferred; experience handling healthcare claims data is required. Familiarity with R, Unix/Linux, Stata, and Python is also beneficial.

Key responsibilities include accessing and processing CMS data, managing large datasets, conducting statistical analyses, and collaborating on manuscripts. The position offers opportunities for co-authorship, mentorship, and professional development. Applicants should possess or be willing to develop strong organizational and communication skills.

One-year position with potential renewal has optional in-person workspaces at NBER (Cambridge, MA) or Indiana University (Bloomington, IN); remote is possible too.
