Full Text of JOE Listing:
The University of Minnesota Morris invites applications for a tenure-track opening in Economics, beginning August 11, 2025. The successful applicant will have a hand in shaping a new, dynamic program.
UMN Morris combines a student-centered, residential liberal arts education, with access to the resources and opportunities of one of the nation's largest universities. Located approximately a 2.75 hour drive west of the MSP International Airport in Minneapolis, UMN Morris is highly ranked by national publications: a "top-10 public liberal arts college" according to U.S. News and World Report; one of the best colleges and universities in the nation, according to Forbes; among the "best" and "most interesting" schools in the U.S., Canada, and the UK, according to Fiske Guide to Colleges.
The small, close-knit campus emphasizes faculty/student collaboration in research, study abroad, and service learning. Deeply rooted in the tall grass prairies of Minnesota, the campus also has advanced sustainable, environmentally friendly initiatives that have grown to levels of national leadership and touch nearly all aspects of campus life. More than forty percent of our students are Native American, persons of color, or of international origins.
Teaching, advising, service, and research are fundamental expectations for the tenure-track faculty. The institution values teaching highly and provides substantial resources in support of faculty excellence in the classroom: peer mentoring, access to consultations and trainings through the UMN system's Center for Educational Innovation, and support for attending the nationally renowned NCFDD workshops - among other forms of support and encouragement.
A successful research program, as judged by external academic reviewers, is also required for tenure and promotion. Institutional support for research includes one semester of teaching relief (usually in year 3), support for conference travel, a competitive grant-in-aid (through the UMN system), and other means.
The teaching load is 20 credits annually (5 4-credit courses). We welcome applications from broadly trained candidates with interests in Macroeconomics, Economic History, Comparative Economic Perspectives, or other heterodox fields. Hiring will be at the beginning or advanced Assistant Professor rank. The successful candidate will be flexible enough to offer (in additional to Economics courses) certain elements of the Business Management curriculum, including Managerial Economics, Financial Management, and possibly other electives. Ph.D. in Economics (or a related field) in hand by the position starting date strongly preferred.
