The Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) seeks a highly skilled Data Scientist (DS) to support policy-relevant, data-driven research. This is a unique opportunity for a technically strong, analytically minded programmer who is passionate about applying empirical methods to improve public programs.

The DS will be embedded in Connecticut’s Department of Social Services (DSS), collaborating across teams to link data systems, build infrastructure, and unlock new avenues for policy evaluation. They will develop analytic plans using advanced statistical, econometric, and ML techniques to inform quality improvement and research initiatives.

The ideal candidate is fluent in R or Python, has experience with healthcare data, and is comfortable working with ML libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow). A strong grasp of causal inference and the ability to communicate findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders are essential.

The DS will lead the development of predictive models to improve member outreach and refine models over time for better accuracy and impact. They will also mentor junior team members, establish best practices in coding, and ensure data integrity.

This is a one-year, full-time position with the possibility of renewal.
