The Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) at the Blavatnik School of Government and the Department of Economics seeks a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with a focus on urban labs or markets in developing economies. The role involves reducing search and matching frictions, increasing firm demand for labor, and boosting employment, earnings, and productivity. The fellow will lead their own research and collaborate on large-scale projects in South Africa and Kenya, with potential involvement in policy work on unemployment services in South Africa.
The position is for candidates with a doctoral degree (or nearing completion) in economics or related fields, focusing on development economics. Fieldwork experience, technical skills in data analysis, and knowledge of economic models are desirable. Applicants with research experience in Africa are encouraged to apply, and candidates from sub-Saharan Africa are particularly welcome.
The post is fixed-term for 3 years, full-time, and based at the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford. The fellow will conduct original research for publication in top economics journals, collaborate on ongoing projects, and present findings at international conferences. Lab/field experiment experience in developing countries is preferred.
