Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Fiscal Research Division (FRD) of the North Carolina General Assembly (NCGA) seeks to hire an additional economist to join our Finance team. Applicants with either a master’s degree or PhD in Economics are invited to apply. Expertise or interest in time series econometrics or applied microeconomics is desired. The role offers a high-impact, hands-on opportunity to work directly with state legislators and collaborate with policy analysts, legislative attorneys, and other state agencies. Applicants who can provide estimates on deadline and communicate their work to a non-technical audience will thrive in the legislative environment.

FRD is a collegial, fast-paced, nonpartisan office that plays a key role in the development of state legislation, including the state budget. Economists on FRD’s Finance team use their skills to forecast nearly $40 billion in revenue based on historical and forecasted data, economic conditions, and policy decisions. The Finance team also works directly with state legislators in evaluating the impacts of tax policy proposals on state revenue.
