The UW School of Marine and Environmental Affairs (SMEA) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Coastal and Environmental Affairs at the level of Assistant Professor. Candidates with expertise in the social sciences - or interdisciplinary scholarship with an emphasis on the social sciences - working at the intersection of coastal and environmental issues are encouraged to apply. We welcome applicants focused on all relevant topics, including but not limited to those with a focus on coastal hazards, climate adaptation and resilience in the coastal zone, marine renewable energy, and/or coastal restoration.

This is a full-time (100% FTE), 9-month position with an anticipated September 16, 2025 start date. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in a relevant field, including but not limited to anthropology, economics, environmental studies, geography, interdisciplinary studies, natural resource management, planning, political science, psychology, public policy, or sociology.
