PhD Associate, Commercial Litigation – Disputes, Claims, & Investigations Consulting
We are seeking PhD candidates and experienced PhDs to work closely with senior staff on commercial litigation consulting matters. Responsibilities include economic research, empirical analysis, and external communications preparation. We are seeking applicants with strong written and oral communication skills, strong critical thinking abilities, and the ability to analyze complex data. The ability to work collaboratively on a team is a key requirement.
An Associate within our Disputes, Claims, & Investigations group is expected to have assignments in a variety of industries. Assignments are typically litigation/dispute matters that require advanced empirical modeling to support liability or damages theories, most frequently related to antitrust matters.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform industry, company, technical, or economic research
• Review, organize, and analyze project data and documents (financial, sales data, healthcare data, etc.)
• Develop and review economic damage models
• Preparation and presentation of schedules and graphical exhibits summarizing results of analytics
• Performance of quality control procedures for client deliverables
• Prepare written reports and exhibits
• Attend client meetings and calls
• Assist in business development activities, such as proposals and professional articles
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• A working knowledge of advanced database management and analytical tools such as SAS, STATA, R, Python, etc.
• Expert in Microsoft suite skills, including Word®, Excel®, PowerPoint®, Access®
• A strong work ethic, innovative thinking, and a positive attitude
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to develop and critique alternative arguments/opinions
• Ability to conduct thorough research
• Excellent team player
• Ability to work with changing client/court-imposed deadlines
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently, multi-task, and focus on details
Education and/or Training:
• PhD, preferably in Economics or Ag Economics
• 0-2 years of post-graduate experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience or strong interest in litigation/dispute consulting
• Fields: Applied Microeconomics, Industrial Organization, Microeconomic Theory, Game Theory, Labor, Healthcare, Econometrics, Public Policy, Agricultural Economics

For individuals assigned to work in California, Colorado, New York City, or Washington, Stout is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The range for this role considers several factors including but not limited to prior work and industry experience, education level, and unique skills. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is uncharacteristic for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
