The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany, is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. The ZEW is a non-profit organization and works in the field of frontier empirical economic research and high-level policy advice. It is integrated into an extensive national and international network of universities and research institutes.

The ZEW is looking to fill the following position in the Research Unit ‘Labour Economics’

6-Year Postdoc with Tenure Option (100 %, f/m/d) Health and Labour/Education Economics
The new hire will become member of the research area “Health at Work” and/or “Education and Social Mobility.” Candidates should have a strong interest for theory-based, empirical or experimental analyses and will develop their independent research agenda and career plan together with the head of the unit, contribute to an excellent publication record of the unit, and provide research-based policy advice. There is no teaching requirement.
Candidates should have excellent writing skills, fluency in English is required; command of German is a plus. Ph.D. must be completed by September.
We offer a full-time position for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extension for another three plus one years. After six years, ZEW offers the possibility of a permanent lifetime position, that is, tenure and the successful applicant the chance to take on an exciting and challenging role in a dynamic research environment. ZEW’s well-established international network of partner institutions as well as projects involving international cooperation also offer exciting opportunities for future career development. The institute provides support to its researchers in attaining post-doctoral qualifications by offering courses, granting sabbaticals as well as encouraging research visits at universities and research institutions abroad.
Remuneration is based on the TV-L statutory salary scale (EG 13) and its associated public sector benefits. German law offers up to 14 months of paid parental leave, mandated access to low-cost childcare from age 1, universal kindergarten from age 3. Paid sick leave at 100% of the salary for up to 6 weeks, followed by paid medical leave and 30 days of fully paid vacation.
