The Department of Economics and the Program in Public Policy Analysis (PPA) at Pomona College invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Economics specializing in Energy Economics. Qualified candidates should expect to have a Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, or related field by Fall 2024.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the Economics Department and be a contributing member of the Public Policy Analysis Program. The successful candidate will be appointed to the Economics Department and will be a contributing member of the Public Policy Analysis Program.

Faculty at Pomona College teach two courses a semester. The successful candidate will offer courses related to Energy Economics or Energy Policy for the Economics Department, and will contribute to PPA by teaching either its senior seminar or a Policy Implementation class on a rotating basis. Faculty at Pomona College are expected to maintain an active scholarship and service profile. Teaching responsibilities at the College reflect this aspiration, supporting tenure-track faculty with teaching assignments that reflect their research interests and goals. The College offers many forms of support for scholarship, including a full-year, pre-tenure research leave.

Pomona College’s student body consists of approximately 1,700 students, over 55% of whom identify as a persons of color. The College maintains a student-to-faculty ratio of eight to one and is strongly committed to small-scale residential education. Faculty at Pomona College are actively engaged in their students’ liberal arts education, serving as academic advisors, supervising research, and routinely directing and advising senior thesis projects.

Founded in 1887, Pomona College is the founding member of the Claremont Colleges, a unique constellation of five small undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions located in southern California near the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains, about 35 miles east of Los Angeles. Students of the Claremont Colleges can cross-register for courses at any of the colleges, and faculty and staff across the colleges often collaborate. Currently, the Department of Economics consists of 13 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, and there are more than 50 economists at the Claremont Colleges.
