Assistant Professor (Two Positions)

Position:
The College of Business and Economics invites applications for two tenure-track, 10-month, assistant professor positions in the Department of Economics beginning August 2024. One position meets the needs arising from a retirement and the other meets the needs of the department’s new Economic Analytics (M.S.) program.

Qualifications:
The positions are open field. A PhD in economics from an U.S. institution of higher education is required at the time of hire. Successful candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarly achievement. Preferences given to candidates with a field in Industrial Organization, International Trade, Urban Economics, Environmental or Natural Resource Economics, Economic History, Macroeconomics, or Econometrics. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong theory background and demonstrated skills in causal machine learning or computational techniques, but other methodologies are welcome.

Responsibilities:
The expected teaching load is 18 credit hours (6 courses) per year. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach courses at the Master’s level.

Department of Economics:
The Department of Economics is dedicated to excellent teaching and active research in a broad range of fields, including development economics, international finance and trade, labor economics, health economics, sports economics, macroeconomics, microeconomic theory, natural resource economics and public economics. The department offers several degree options, including the economics major, the economics minor, the business administration major with an economics track (or concentration), as well as the master’s degree in economic analytics. We are a growing department with 21 full-time faculty and staff currently. We look forward to welcoming two new colleagues in fall 2024.

College of Business and Economics:
The College is accredited by AACSB for both its business and accounting programs. It offers undergraduate business programs with majors/concentrations in an array of business fields and offers a growing number of graduate programs. The College plays a prominent role in providing leadership to local/regional firms, governments, and non-profit organizations.

Towson University:
Towson University (www.towson.edu) was founded in 1866, is recognized by U.S. News and World Reports as one of the top public universities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, is Baltimore’s largest university, and is the largest public, comprehensive institution in the University of Maryland System.
