Associate/Full Professor of Economics - JOB#077178
Department of Economics
Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs
College of Arts and Sciences

Syracuse University’s Department of Economics seeks to fill a position in health economics at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The position stems from an ambitious, university-wide Aging, Health, and Neuroscience (AHN) cluster initiative with an emphasis on population health. Academic clusters and associated hires serve to align the University’s trends in research and extramural funding, strengthen research activity, and develop opportunities for student research and learning that responds to societal challenges. Special attention will be given to fostering diversity within the department. The search begins immediately and will remain open until the position is filled.

Additional information on the cluster initiative is available on the website of the Office of the Provost, Syracuse University. Information on the Aging, Health, and Neuroscience cluster can be found here: https://www.syracuse.edu/academics/research/clusters/aging-health-and-neuroscience/.

Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in economics or related discipline. Candidates must also have an outstanding research record in economics journals commensurate with rank. Preference will be given to candidates whose research is in health economics and, more specifically, population health. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates who are at the Associate or Full level, but exceptional candidates at an advanced Assistant level are welcome to apply for an Associate level position.

Successful candidates must be able to advise Ph.D. students on their research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in health economics, and engage in service in the economics department. As an AHN cluster hire, candidates must have interdisciplinary interests that complement the cluster and have demonstrated an interest and potential to secure extramural research funding.

Successful candidates are expected to participate in the AHN research cluster, publish research in economics journals, advise doctoral students, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, engage in service in the economics department, and seek extramural funding.

Syracuse University maintains an inclusive learning environment in which students, faculty, administrators, staff, curriculum, social activities, governance, and all other aspects of campus life reflect a diverse, multi-cultural, and international worldview. Candidates must have a commitment to engagement and inclusion of individuals of all races, ethnicities, and gender identities.

The Department of Economics is located in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, which includes departments and programs in the social sciences, public policy, public administration, and international relations. The Maxwell School and the Economics Department are also part of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences.
