Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer
The Texas A&M Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Evidence Center is seeking a scientific leader in evidence assessment in the economics of agriculture, food, nutrition, and health to serve as Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer. The Evidence Center will conduct evidence reviews and syntheses related to the impact of agriculture and food systems on human and environmental health and the economy.
This is a full salaried, core-funded 12-month academic Research Professor appointment with the opportunity to mentor graduate students and post-doctoral associates. The Deputy Director will have opportunities to interact with colleagues in the Department of Agricultural Economics, which has a large and broad faculty base (http://agecon.tamu.edu).
Duties will include:
- Manage and oversee a scientific program that provides high-quality, objective, and transparent evidence-based scientific reviews and analyses for national and international government, policy, and public health organizations.
- Implement the Evidence Center’s comprehensive, mission-driven scientific and educational program to ensure delivery of key science, research, and educational projects and programs, within key milestones for deadlines and funding requirements.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in related field and eight (8) years of related experience
- Experience assessing and synthesizing economic evidence related to agricultural, environmental sciences, food, nutrition, and health.
- Strong English written and verbal communications skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in effective strategic planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Publication of high-level scientific research, including research synthesis studies (e.g., systematic reviews, meta-analyses, economic impact assessment).
- Willingness to become a recognized national leader in scientific evidence assessment in agricultural economics.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Terminal degree (i.e.: PhD, MD, etc.) in a related field and ten (10) or more years of related experience as a scientific leader on research projects and programs, with emphasis on projects related to evidence assessment, review, and synthesis, including managing budgets and personnel.
- A proven track record of obtaining research funding from agencies and organizations
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate coalitions and consensus among scientific stakeholders and organizations.
