The Bates College Economics Department invites applications for multiple full-time Visiting Assistant Professor positions, beginning in August 1, 2023. We are open to candidates in any field of economics. The successful candidates must combine teaching in their field(s) of specialization with a willingness to teach core courses including Introductory Economics or Intermediate Microeconomics. The position will be one academic year in duration with a total teaching load of five courses. All Ph.D. degree requirements must be completed by the date of appointment.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. To be seriously considered, candidates should substantively discuss in their application materials how they design their courses, develop an inclusive climate in the classroom, and demonstrate their success in working with underrepresented, first generation, and marginalized student populations. The college and the Economics Department are committed to enhancing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum. Candidates who can contribute to this goal are encouraged to apply; the search committee expects candidates to identify their strengths and experience in this area.
All Ph.D. degree requirements must be completed by the date of appointment.
To receive full consideration, candidates should submit their applications by March 15, 2023. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. Please submit the following materials: cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, a research paper, statements on teaching, research, and diversity, teaching evaluations, and three letters of reference (at least one of which must specifically address teaching performance and abilities). Also, please describe your willingness and preparedness for teaching core courses. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
