The Economics Department at Colby College invites applications for one or more visiting positions, possibly in two-year appointments, for the 2023-24 academic year. Successful candidates must demonstrate their potential for excellence in teaching. Candidates will be expected to teach courses that contribute to our core curriculum and elective offerings. The teaching expectations for each visiting position will be up to five courses spread across two academic semesters, with the potential to count multiple sections of the same course toward this total load. Based on anticipated departmental needs, we have a preference for candidates with the ability to teach Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, as well as Macroeconomic Theory and/or Statistical Methods and Econometrics. Elective course offerings will depend on the successful applicants’ areas of expertise. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their teaching, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community.
Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college located in Central Maine with high standards for teaching and research. Our review of completed applications will begin on March 10 and continue until the position is filled. To be considered for an interview, your application dossier must include: (i) a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Colby; (ii) your curriculum vitae; (iii) evidence of classroom teaching effectiveness, including course evaluations if available; (iv) a statement of teaching philosophy that demonstrates commitment to the value of diversity and to inclusive teaching; and (v) three confidential letters of recommendation, at least one of which must address your potential for teaching excellence.
