The College of Agricultural and Life Science’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics (https://aaec.vt.edu/) at Virginia Tech invites applications for an early career, non-tenured position at the rank of research assistant professor with a specialization in Data Science and its application in the social sciences. The position is a 12-month, restricted, calendar-year appointment. The anticipated start date for this position is May 10, 2023.
Required Qualifications:
-Ph.D. in Agricultural and Applied Economics, Economics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Public Policy, Management Science, Sociology, Statistics, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
-Explicit research experience or coursework on the boundary between data science and policy analysis in their major field.
-Record of peer-reviewed publications or advanced working papers relevant to the position description.
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work and lead effectively in a public facing, team-based atmosphere.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Proficiency in R, Stata, and/or Python modeling languages.
-Research experience using R or Python.
-Experience working with large structured and unstructured datasets.
-Cooperative Extension experience.
