Assistant Professor Positions in Development Economics
Cornell SC Johnson College of Business
Cornell University

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applications from qualified individuals for two Assistant Professor positions in the Applied Economics and Policy (AEP) area with an intended start date of July 1, 2023. One of the positions will be based in Johnson with primary teaching responsibilities focused on MBA students. The other will be based in Dyson with teaching primarily focused on Dyson’s undergraduate or graduate programs. These positions will be based in Ithaca, NY.

The responsibilities of these positions include producing high-quality research in the field of development economics; graduate student supervision, including the ability to guide field research in low- and middle-income countries; teaching introductory and advanced courses for various undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the college; securing external research grants or contracts; public outreach to help translate research into real world impact; and service to the academic community, the AEP area, the SC Johnson College of Business, and the University at large. It is expected that our faculty teach across multiple schools within the College of Business.

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. or be on track to completing one by summer 2023, in an economics or economics-related field, with a strong record of applied research in development economics and in teaching.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan). These positions would be affiliated with the Dyson or Johnson Schools. The Johnson School offers MBA, Executive MBA, MS, and Ph.D. programs. The Dyson School offers Cornell’s undergraduate business program, and is home to graduate (MPS, MS and Ph.D.) programs in applied economics and management.

The College faculty are organized into different Areas. The AEP Area includes faculty affiliated with all three Schools, with particular expertise in environmental, energy and resource economics (EERE); food and agricultural economics (FAE); international and development economics; and real estate. AEP faculty frequently collaborate with colleagues in Strategy and Business Economics and other Areas within the College (e.g., Finance, Marketing), as well as with faculty from Agriculture and Life Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Industrial and Labor Relations, Public Policy, and other units across campus. The College is also home to the Emerging Markets Institute and the Emerging Markets Program, which focus on business and economic development in emerging economies. For these positions, strong links to EERE, FAE or core business disciplines such as finance, marketing, or management and organizations hold particular appeal.

Applicants who wish to be considered for short virtual interviews in late December or early January are encouraged to submit their letter of interest and CV by November 15, 2022.
