The Central Bank of Chile is looking to fill up to two Senior Economist positions in its Economic Studies Unit. One is for the Economic Modelling Department and one for the Economic Research Department.

Both positions require someone with a strong interest in conducting high-quality research and applying their work to inform policy decisions and provide advice to the Bank's Board. The CBC offers a lively and dynamic environment with many opportunities for career development and constant interaction with academia and policymakers worldwide through seminars, courses, and workshops organized at the Bank. Publishing in top international journals is not only encouraged but also required. Financial support to travel and submit papers and time from research assistants is provided.

The specific activities in each department are:
(1) Economic Modelling: Participate in economic research activities on relevant domestic and global economic issues by developing quantitative macroeconomic models to help improve the analysis and decision-making of the Central Bank of Chile and its Board. Collaborate in defining and implementing the Medium-term Economic Modeling Agenda of the Central Bank of Chile.
(2) Economic Research: Carry out empirical or theoretical research in various areas such as monetary policy, international economy, labor market, and financial markets, among others, with the aim of better understanding the trends that arise from the behavior of the Chilean economy, in accordance with the interests and needs of the Central Bank of Chile and its Board.

The Economic Studies Unit employs approximately 16 Ph.D. economists graduated from U.S. and European universities, as well as Master-level research assistants who collaborate with research projects and macroeconomic analysis.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Economics or an equivalent degree or expect to receive it by September 2023. Experienced Ph.D. economists are also encouraged to apply. The position is open-ended and offers internationally competitive wages and benefits packages.
