The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association is offering a PostDoc Position (100%)(f/m/x)
assigned to the Competitiveness Research Network (CompNet) that is part of the IWH Department of Structural Change and Productivity, starting at the earliest possible date. The contract is limited to two years. An extension is possible conditional on funding. The place of work can be flexibly organized. The main office will be in Halle (Saale).

What We Offer
You will be given the opportunity to cooperate with multiple national productivity boards and high-profile policy institutions (e.g., European Commission) across Europe. You will use the CompNet data, a European cross-country data infrastructure of our construction, to answer policy-relevant research questions. More specifically, you will closely engage with these institutions and help coordinate the activities of a team of Master and Ph.D. students. You will coordinate and lead efforts to engaging with these institutions, identify policy relevant questions that can be addressed with our data, and participate in writing policy reports and joint research papers. You will be part of a team managing a high impact Technical Assistance Grant from the European Commission.

CompNet is connected to a large community of international scientists, research departments, and policy institutions and, through that, promotes a flourishing environment that directly connects our research on European firm and market performance to actual policy questions within leading European policy
institutions. This environment offers an excellent chance to gain further academic qualifications and experience relevant for working in research and research-related (policy) institutions.

Your Profile/Your Motivation
You have a strong interest in applying empirical economics to policy-relevant research questions. A back-ground firm and market performance is desirable. Ideally, you have already worked within a policy-related partner institution of the CompNet network or within a national productivity board. You aspire to transfer research to concrete policy advice.

What We Expect
You hold a high-quality doctoral degree in economics or are close to completing it. You have a sound back-ground in applied econometrics. We also appreciate good knowledge of relevant firm micro data. You are willing to push CompNet’s research agenda. Your tasks further include linking CompNet activities with the international scientific and policy-related community.

Further Information
The IWH considers itself a family-friendly employer that guarantees equal opportunities. Remuneration and benefits correspond to the German public sector salary scheme (up to pay group 13 Tarifvertrag der Länder, TV-L). Candidates with disabilities and their peers are encouraged to indicate a severe disability in their application.
