Senior Economic Policy Analyst

The Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) is a leading sustainability research and education
organization at Rochester Institute of Technology. Our applied research centers focus on advanced and
sustainable manufacturing, energy, transportation, remanufacturing and resource recovery, and cleaner
production.

GIS is seeking a Senior Economic Policy Analyst to lead our Economic & Policy Analysis team and conduct
economic analysis related to trade and public policy that impacts sustainability and the circular
economy.

Responsibilities:

• Define, design, and conduct research; formulate and test hypotheses using statistical models
and analysis to transform qualitative economic concepts into quantitative information that can
be used to inform policy decision making; conduct statistical economic analysis and evaluate
and interpret results.

• Lead the Economic & Policy Analysis team; oversee research projects; ensure overall project
execution and quality

• Provide subject matter expertise to GIS research teams

• Develop case studies, economic trend and policy briefings, and research papers

• Identify important global, national, and NYS issues and topics to investigate in alignment with
overall GIS goals and research thrusts. Build GIS internal capacity in sustainability and circular
economy policy

• Develop proposals for new project funding

• Develop relationships with economic and policy experts, academics, and practitioners who can
contribute to our understanding of relevant issues or collaborate with us in advancing our goals

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in relevant field (e.g. economics, economic policy analysis, environmental
economics, public policy) and 6-8 years of experience conducting economic policy research,

• or, Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 10 years of experience conducting economic policy
research

• Advanced quantitative and analytical research skills; extensive experience in economic modeling
and econometrics

• Understanding of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to international trade

• Experience leading a team or managing staff

• Strong project management skills

• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complicated economic and policy issues into laypersons language.

• Excellent strategic thinker who enjoys exploring new topics

• Ability to work 100% on campus (Rochester, NY)

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in related field

• Experience writing research proposals

• Understanding of business, manufacturing, and sustainability concepts
