One appointment will be made in the area of Sustainable Agriculture and the other in the area of Commercial Agriculture, both broadly defined. Sustainable agriculture could include research, for example, on agri-environmental interactions, climate-smart agriculture, animal welfare, or the well-being of rural communities. Commercial agriculture would include fields such as production economics, agricultural marketing, risk management, and international trade.

These are 60% research and 40% teaching appointments. Major responsibilities will include: (1) maintaining a nationally recognized, policy maker and industry-relevant research program with an effective outreach component, (2) publishing novel research in major agricultural/applied economics and economics journals, (3) teaching graduate and undergraduate level courses, (4) advising graduate and undergraduate students, and (5) and securing sufficient grants and contracts to at least partially fund their graduate students and research program expenses. The teaching appointment is expected to translate to teaching two regular courses per academic year and one every other year.

A Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Applied Economics, Environmental Economics, or closely related field is required, along with a strong knowledge of economic theory and quantitative methods, a good understanding of the current challenges facing Georgia’s, national and global agriculture, a willingness to work in a team environment, and excellent oral and written communication skills. For the senior position, preferred qualifications include: (1) a well-established national and international stature in the fields of sustainable agriculture or commercial agriculture; (2) an outstanding record of research and outreach in the area of specialization as evidenced by numerous publications in the premier agricultural and applied economics journals and presentations to relevant audiences; (3) an excellent graduate and undergraduate student teaching and mentoring record; and (4) a demonstrated ability to secure significant external grants funding. For the junior position, preferred qualifications include: (1) the potential to build an outstanding record of research and outreach in the area of specialization as evidenced by numerous publications in the premier agricultural and applied economics journals and presentations to relevant audiences, leading to a national and international reputation in the fields of sustainable agriculture or commercial agriculture; (2) readiness to build an excellent graduate and undergraduate student teaching and mentoring record; and (3) a willingness to secure significant external grants funding.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
