The Department of Economics at Knox College invites applications for visiting appointment as Assistant Professor or Instructor of Economics beginning September 1, 2022. The initial appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal. The position involves a six-course teaching load (two courses in each 10-week trimester) that includes introductory micro- and/or macroeconomics and a course in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Knox College is an independent, selective liberal arts institution with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Candidates should have a sincere interest in quality undergraduate teaching at an institution that values diversity and close interactions with students, as well as a desire to maintain an active research program. We are particularly interested in creative, energetic teachers of undergraduate students who can contribute to Knox College’s considerable diversity and reflect that diversity in their teaching, mentoring, and research. With over 35% of the student body identifying as American students of color and an additional 15% international students, the College seeks courses appealing and welcoming to all of Knox’s students. Experience working with diverse populations of students and a commitment to teach successfully in a multicultural environment are expected.
Visiting faculty members at Knox are included in all aspects of the intellectual life of the College. The visiting faculty member will have a modest conference travel budget and access to research resources. Pay is commensurate with first-year, entry-level faculty positions.
Ph.D. in Economics or related field preferred, ABD candidates considered.
To apply, candidates should submit:
1. A letter of application that addresses the candidate’s preparation for inclusive teaching in a diverse liberal arts college and explains the applicant’s undergraduate teaching philosophy;

3. A teaching portfolio that may include syllabi, assignments and evidence of teaching effectiveness;
4. Three confidential letters of recommendation.
