Full Text of JOE Listing:
The postdoctoral associate will engage in collaborative research with the IMPOWR research network aimed at developing and testing integrative strategies of chronic pain and opioid use disorder that is funded by the National Institutes of Health Helping to End Addiction Long-term (NIH HEAL) Initiative. The postdoctoral associate will lead the implementation of cost and cost-effectiveness evaluations alongside three clinical trials. In addition, the postdoctoral associate will engage in population data-driven health services and policy studies aimed at improving access to, outcomes of, and equity in evidence-based treatments for substance use, mental health, and co-existing medical conditions.
The postdoctoral associate will be supervised and mentored by Dr. Yuhua Bao, an associate professor at Weill Cornell Medicine and leading health economist in the field. The postdoctoral associate will meet, collaborate, and receive additional support from affiliated investigators with complementary expertise.
This postdoctoral opportunity is enriched by the research infrastructure provided by the Center for Health Economics of Treatment Interventions for Substance Use Disorder, HCV, and HIV (CHERISH), a multi-institutional Center of Excellence, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The Center’s mission is to develop and disseminate health economic research on healthcare utilization, health outcomes, and health-related behaviors that informs substance use disorder treatment policy and HCV and HIV care of people who use substances.
The postdoctoral associate will receive appropriate training and conduct methodological studies in the following areas:
Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data from various types of clinical trial designs, including multi-armed, adaptive, stepped wedge and cluster randomized controlled trials
Research designs of comparative economic and effectiveness evaluations conducted alongside clinical trials and cohort studies
Econometric and advanced statistical methods for analyzing healthcare service utilization, cost, and measures commonly reported in cost-effectiveness studies (e.g., quality-adjusted life-years) of health interventions.
The postdoctoral associate will also leverage several ongoing federally funded projects and receive training and conduct methodological studies in the following areas:
Designing and conducting observational research studies
Building analytical files using population administrative data (Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial claims databases) to support specific research questions
Implementing advanced statistical modeling (e.g., embedding quasi-experimental designs and with assessments of assumptions and sensitivity analysis)
Disseminating research findings through team manuscript development, conference abstracts, and other venues
