Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Pandemics and Borders project at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Greater Vancouver, Canada, invites recent PhDs and final-year PhD students with health economics expertise to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship.
The postdoctoral scholar will work with the Pandemics and Borders team (including Professors Eric Werker, Caroline Colijn, Kelley Lee, and William Hsiao at SFU and Beate Sander at University of Toronto) to assess the impact of border measures on the evolution of COVID-19. Utilizing novel datasets and engaging with policymakers and advisors, the postdoctoral scholar will have significant independence in undertaking research while benefitting from a supportive and multidisciplinary team.
The ideal candidate will have strong econometric skills plus expertise in one or more of: formal epidemiological modelling; causal inference methods to measure impact; and considering genetic mechanisms in economic research.
The fellowship duration is 1-2 years, with a flexible start date between April and September 2022. The project is based in a new provincially-funded institute focused on emerging pathogens and pandemics. Bridging mathematical epidemiology, economics, genetics, and political science, affiliated scholars at the institute contribute to national and global efforts to understand and respond to global health threats.
