The Khoury College of Computer Sciences invites applications for an open rank tenure-track/tenured faculty position, beginning in Fall 2022. Applications will also be considered for Spring/Fall 2023.
Candidates will be considered from all areas in computing or related fields, with a particular emphasis on candidates whose research focuses on artificial intelligence or technology policy. The Colleges are especially interested in applicants working at the intersection of multiple scientific fields. Candidates are expected to have or to develop an independently funded research program of international caliber and to participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching.

The Khoury College of Computer Sciences, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, School of Law, and D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University jointly seek to fill an open rank tenure line position in the area of Artificial Intelligence/Technology Policy. The successful candidate will have a strong scholarly record or research program with high relevance to policy, regulatory, societal, or governance issues raised by artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, big data, or other aspects of computing technology. The person filling this position will have training/expertise in both computer science and a related field, and they will contribute to interdisciplinary research and curriculum projects. Applicants should be fluent with the practical aspects of technologies that underlie modern, data-driven systems, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. Research areas can include technology and society, law, public policy, culture, or sociology, among others. This will be a joint position in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences and one or more of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, School of Law, and D’Amore-McKim School of Business, with the tenure home to be determined in consultation with the person filling the position.

Candidates should also have demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students and conducting an independent research program.

A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field in the area of artificial intelligence or technology policy is required by the appointment start date.

Khoury College is committed to broadening participation in CS to increase diversity of thought and demographics. For undergraduates, Khoury offers 36+ combined majors (CS+X) and has recently launched the Center for Inclusive Computing, which has the mission to broaden participation in undergraduate computing programs nationally. At the graduate level Khoury is now scaling its successful Align MS in CS program for people who did not study CS as an undergraduate. This includes building a consortium of universities in the U.S. to offer similar programs.
Khoury College has grown rapidly over the last five years in response to increased student demand at the BS, MS and PhD level and projects a continuation of this growth for the next few years.
